Fagradalsfjall volcano and Glymur falls

After a blissful 8+ hours of Zzzzzs, the breakfast basket with fresh baked bread, boiled eggs, yogurt, fresh pears  and a bunch of different spreads (way more than things they could be spread on as per Kahan!) was a treat.  As we drove our rental Subaru through the Icelandic freeways, with melodious Bollywood tunes playing and a couple of British Indian and American Indian teens chatting away, it dawned upon me that we have managed to co-exist and thrive in a world that is so diverse. The total 5.25 (around 8km) hike with an elevation gain of around 1000ft is fairly easy for the most past except a short steep patch which gets quite slippery when coming down. I had to rely on Chinmay’s guidance and hand holding for that patch, and even with that there were a couple of falls! It was quite a unique hike, the highlight of which was vast stretches of solidified molten lava fields. With steam coming from the cracks in between, the lacy wavy imprinted patterns solidified in time (no ...

Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik town

Paradise found for Parishi- the face mask/skin care queen! Relaxing in the expansive Blue Lagoon The entrance building our anticipation  🧖‍♀️An Icelandic  Spa day  Downtown Reykjavik  Eye candy Gelato display  The Trio Posing with the  unnamed bureaucrat  What could be better than a “family spa day” after a 13 hour plane ride across continents? The simple answer is the big blue warm lagoon with geothermal water 15 minutes from the KEF airport! As touristy as it may appear, it is a perfect way to unwind and get into the vacation spirit. They have figured out ways to keep their guests in their premises for a few hours with the sequential face masks (the better kind), hot water fall, sauna and a gi...

Are we really ready?

Now this is a question fraught with so much weight! The trip planning phase which spanned over the last couple of months and included research, meetings, pointed (mostly) WhatsApp communications and meticulous organizing with shared sheets and the whole nine yards seems to have fallen short. The reason being, here we are at the gate ready to board our flights but none of us can agree on a common pronunciation of places like “Jokulsarlon” or even “Reykjavik”. And I am already getting worried about the countless other names of places and landmarks we’ll be visiting. Wish we had managed to schedule a few Icelandic speaking lessons in this phase! And I am surprised it didn’t cross any of our 19 fertile minds! Yes 19, you read that right! This is a first for most of us and goes without saying that we are excited with this diverse yet cohesive bunch- Shyanis, (4) Reshamwalas (4), Dalals (3), Kapadias from UK (4) besides us 4!  Packing for this trip was different- rugged, outdoor friendly...
